Our History

Cerebral Palsy Tasmania was originally called the "Spastic Children Treatment Fund Committee". It was formed and registered on the 17th September 1963 by a group of parents of children with what was then known as spasticity and other interested people. On the 26th of October 1970 the committee changed its name to "The Tasmanian Spastics Association".

In October 1996 the organisation again changed its name to "Cerebral Palsy Association of Tasmania and on the 7th of December 2000 the 'Association' was removed from the name. This latest change was made to better reflect the views of the community and changes taking place within the organisation.

The organisation has grown and changed over the years, and like many similar-sized not-for-profits has experienced lots of highs and lows.
